The Secret To Tithing
January 05, 2017

THE SECRET TO TITHING  By GV Potter The following post was written by a member of our fellowship. God gave us the Holy Spirit to direct, teach, and instruct us, and He has blessed us with various resources and spiritual gifts. As Christians, our goal should be to use all of our God-given resources and gifts wisely, simply because God expects it of us, and not just because we expect blessings in return.  We must always remember that we are accountable to God for how we use these resources and gifts.  One such resource is our money, and our responsibility to tithe.  How ... read more
Life's Potholes

LIFE'S POTHOLES  By GV Potter The following post was written by a member of our fellowship.   Our paths in life are often filled with many challenges.  Regardless of where you currently are, you are on a path.  Every path in life will lead somewhere; therefore one must ask oneself, “Where does this path lead?” God warns us in Proverbs 4:14-15, “Do not enter the path of the wicked. And do not walk in the way of evil. Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on.” Clearly, we need to watch our steps.  The paths of life will ha ... read more
Doubt

STOP DOUBTING!  By GV Potter The following post was written by a member of our fellowship.   Doubt is an open door in your life, through which Satan can come to incite fear, discouragement, confusion and despair.  In turn this robs you of joy, confidence and peace. But isn’t doubt a part of being human?  It sure is, and it’s one of Satan’s ploys that he uses against us. Doubt is an experience common to all people. Even those with faith in God struggle with doubt on occasion, as spoken by the man in Mark 9:24 “Lord, I believe; help me with my unbe ... read more
God's Voice

GOD'S VOICE  By GV Potter The following post was written by a member of our fellowship.   As Christians, we must learn to listen to God’s voice.  Isaiah 30:21 states, “Your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’’’  There is a true and amazing event that was written about J.S. Holden, one of England’s finest preachers, during the early 1900’s. Holden had purchased a ticket on a ship bound for America, intending to speak at an important conference.  However instead, Holden chose to stay ... read more
Temptations

TEMPTATIONS  By GV Potter The following post was written by a member of our fellowship.   The Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary defines temptation as, “Enticed to do wrong by promise of pleasure or gain.” Temptation enters our lives through three doors: “The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,” (1 John. 2:16). That’s how it entered the Garden of Eden, (Gen. 3:6). Lust is like a tiger—once uncaged it will prowl through your mind and prey on your thoughts. What it won’t do is willingly go back into its cage! ... read more
Letting Go Of The Past

LETTING GO OF THE PAST  By GV Potter The following post was written by a member of our fellowship.   Being a General Building Contractor, I can relate to this!   Something drawn or etched into freshly setting concrete will last more than our lifetime.  Whenever we look at that etching it is still there, even years later.  It does not go away.  It is a reminder of years ago. The same can be said of our mental and physical scars that we often carry around daily.  These are the sins of the past that plague us whenever we think of them. However we must reme ... read more
The Holy Spirit
December 01, 2015

THE HOLY SPIRIT  By GV Potter The following post was written by a member of our fellowship.   The Bible is unlike any other book ever written. Its author is God, who communicated His message to man through the Holy Spirit.  Of all the gifts given to mankind, there is none greater than the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He is the third person in the Trinity, and He is an essential part of our Christian life.  He has all the attributes of God—all powerful, all present and all knowing (I Corinthians 2:11ff).  Still, the Holy Spirit’s purpose is ... read more
Faith

FAITH  By GV Potter The following post was written by a member of our fellowship.   Faith is a crucial link between man and God, yet for many it seems to evaporate as we go through life. We live in a rapidly changing world, and a world full of tangible things we can touch or possess.  In our everyday living, we demonstrate faith through everyday activities.  For example, we have faith that when we sit in a chair, the chair legs will support us.  One can add a multitude of various situations where we have faith in things that our five senses tells us are real.  ... read more
The Perfect Church
September 02, 2014

The apostle Paul stated in Romans 1:11 "For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift, so that you may be established." I find it amazing that Paul wanted to renew or strengthen the faith of others by imparting some spiritual gift."  I believe when we come to church that the Holy Spirit is ready and willing to impart something to us as well.   When we gather, why do we gather?  Is it just a time to “shoot the breeze," or do we come in order to encourage and edify others?  Are we interested in seeing people grow stronger in the faith of Christ? & ... read more
Thoughts On Easter (Part 2)
April 08, 2014

Jesus gives us a "new commandment."  He says, "A new commandment I give to you that you love one another as I have loved you, that you also love one another." So how can we do that?  It seems impossible in our own strength, even though we want to do it.  But Jesus showed us how.  For example, if you stand up and stretch out your right hand and say "love God," and then stretch out your left hand and say "love others," it’s not important which side is which because Jesus said that they were really two sides of the same commandment. Who is holding up the cross bar?&n ... read more
Thoughts On Easter (Part 1)
March 27, 2014

Easter Sunday, or should I say "Resurrection Day," is just around the corner.  It’s time to stop and take thought of what Jesus Christ did for us. Phil. 2:6-8 tells us, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men, and being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Paul prayed that we would ... read more
Why Christmas?
December 11, 2013

Most secularists or atheists would consider Christmas to be a waste of time (that is, unless they own a business that profits or benefits them during the Christmas time of gift giving!).  To others, the Christmas season can be an additional time of stress and worry.  So once again, "Why Christmas??" Christmas to me is about celebrating the birth of my King and Lord.  It's a time of year that we can reflect on who He is and why we are to be thankful as Christians.  The answer can be found in the words of Jesus, "But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, a ... read more
Enduring Scrapes and Bruises
November 08, 2013

As a pastor, I often hear people tell me that their problems just keep getting worse with no let up in sight.  Someone recently said, “It’s just so hard to keep your head up when life just keeps getting you down!” We must live by faith when it comes to everything in life: our work worries, our financial woes, our marriages, our health, etc.  How do we live by faith in these matters?  We commit them all to God in prayer, and then try, as best we can, to let Him handle things.  James said, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He sh ... read more
Halloween...Whose Celebration Is It?
October 08, 2013

What is Halloween or Samhain?  What does it represent?  What should the Christian think about it?   Please consider these important facts... ON HALLOWEEN. . . The Passover Celebration in a Jewish home begins when the youngest son asks his father, “Daddy, why is this night different from all other nights?  Then the father tells him of the mighty works of God surrounding the Exodus of Egypt.  But what would you say if your child were to ask you about Halloween?  “Why is this night so different from all other nights?”  Some peop ... read more
THE KEY TO LIFE
September 05, 2013

Those of us who live in America are living in greater abundance than practically everyone else on the planet. Even when we face difficult financial times we’re still doing far better than most. Our “normal” is beyond what most people will ever experience or even dream to have in their lifetime. So with all this abundance, why are we so stressed about money and material things? Why do we compare what we have to what others have, and often allow jealousy to run our lives? And why do we think so much about money, leading most of us regularly to a place of anxiety and worry? ... read more
